Whether we procure materials on behalf of the customer, build from customer-supplied kits, or operate a hybrid approach, we maintain controlled processes for purchasing, receiving, storage, issuing and traceability.
Our objective is to protect build continuity, ensure configuration correctness, and provide clear accountability for material status throughout the manufacturing route.
01 / Supply chain model
Full Buy
Under a full-buy model, Icom-Scottech procures all components, materials and services required for manufacture in accordance with the customer’s released bill of materials (BOM), approved vendor list (AVL) and build documentation. Purchasing activities include quotation and lead-time management, supplier selection aligned to the required technology, and control of part revisions and manufacturer part numbers to maintain configuration integrity. Where alternatives are required (for example due to lead-time or lifecycle constraints), substitutions are managed through an agreed approval route to ensure technical equivalence and continued compliance. This model provides a single point of responsibility for material availability and supports coordinated planning from procurement through to build and dispatch.
02 / Supply chain model
Free-Issued Kit
Where customers provide a fully free-issued kit, materials are supplied to Icom-Scottech for assembly in accordance with the agreed build pack. On receipt, kits can be checked for completeness, identification, revision status and physical condition against the kit list and associated documentation, enabling timely resolution of shortages or discrepancies. Customer-supplied materials are then issued to work orders under controlled processes to ensure that the correct parts and quantities are presented to production. This model enables customers to retain direct control of sourcing whilst benefiting from Icom-Scottech’s controlled receiving, handling and build discipline.
03 / Supply chain model
Hybrid (Full Buy + Free Issue)
In a hybrid model, procurement responsibility is shared, with selected parts purchased by Icom-Scottech and other items supplied free-issue by the customer. This approach is commonly used where customers wish to nominate critical components, long-lead items or proprietary parts, whilst delegating the balance of procurement to Icom-Scottech to simplify coordination. Material ownership and responsibility are defined at part level within the BOM/AVL and work order documentation, and all materials are controlled through the same receiving, storage, issuing and traceability processes to maintain a single, coherent configuration baseline at build.
04 / Supply chain model
Stock Management
While materials are held within Icom-Scottech, stock is stored and handled to preserve quality and maintain traceability. Components may be segregated by customer, project and work order to prevent commingling, and controlled issue methods are used to ensure that the correct revision and quantity are released to production. Where applicable, ESD-safe storage and handling practices are applied for sensitive devices, and packaging integrity is maintained to protect parts from damage and contamination. Nonconforming or suspect materials are identified and segregated under controlled status to prevent unintended use, and stock records are maintained to support auditability and accurate material planning.
05 / Supply chain model
Obsolescence Management
We support obsolescence and supply risk management by monitoring availability, lead-times and lifecycle status of components during quotation and procurement, and by highlighting identified risks to customers for timely decision-making. Where constraints arise, we can support mitigation actions such as identifying approved alternatives, planning last-time buys, and adjusting build plans to protect delivery schedules. For ongoing programmes, we encourage periodic BOM review to identify single-source dependencies and emerging lifecycle issues, helping customers maintain continuity of supply and avoid late-stage redesign or production disruption.
