Passive radiative cooling improves high-end solar cells

Pusan National University in Korea is increasing the efficiency of solar cells by bouncing heat back into the sky. “Standing in the sun all day, solar cells often become very heated,” according to the university. “Over time, this degrades them and lowers their power-conversion efficiency. Integrating radiative coolers can solve this problem without energy consumption.” ...

7x7mm chip delivers 2x100W stereo

Infineon has created a 7 x 7mm multi-chip module that can deliver two audio channels of up to 100W each. Called MA5332MS, the company claims 95% for the Class-D amplifier when driving that power into 4Ω loads (10% THD+N, ±36.5V supply). Looking at the data sheet, up to 90W is available with <0.1% THD+N. Providing the load ...

Tiny antenna gets THz tech into the home

A Skoltech professor and his colleagues from Germany have designed a very small and flat antenna for receiving and transmitting terahertz signals. The problem with THz technology is that THz devices will require miniaturization before they can be more widely adopted. “Today, you will find bulky THz devices in laboratory or industrial settings, in some airports, hospitals, ...
